Joe Sacco staying on the Avalanche roster

Well, despite the disappointing end to the season the team has decided to keep coach Joe Sacco on the Avalanche roster as the head coach. Some of you might think that this is surprising news. Let me explain to you why it's actually not that surprising and why the team SHOULD be keeping their current head coach in place:

1. The Avalanche barely missed making the NHL playoffs. They were playing alright, they just weren't totally up to par - or up to where we all would have liked them to be as fans. And that whole not-making-the-playoffs thing had more to do with a team that was plagued with injuries as opposed to a team that had a bad coach.

2. Sacco has a proven track record. He's taken this team to the playoffs before. He's taken them past the first round of the playoffs before. So there's definitely room for improvement with the team this year and definitely the tracks set in place to make it to the playoffs in the future.

3. The last thing this team needs is to have the management roster shaken up. How often does a team with a new coach actually make it to the first round of the NHL Playoffs? That's right, you can probably count them on one hand. Shaking up the system means these guys will have to get used to a new guy in charge, a new coaching style, a new playing style - which means a year of adjustment.
