Colorado Avalanche Roster: Down But Not Out

So the Av's disappointing pre-All Star Break loss to the Minnesota Wild kind of sucked. Mostly because the team had a great chance to show off some skills and grab a couple of much needed points to make it to the playoffs, and then barely even showed up to the game. That being said, our ice boys still have a big chance to make it to the playoffs this season. What we need to make that happen:

1. A stronger 2nd period. For some reason, the team can't seem to keep the level of play consistent throughout the entire game. Unless you count them consistently performing sub-par during the second period. I don't know if it's an individual mentality thing or a coaching thing, but whatever they're doing is screwing with their heads enough to really screw with their game. For 20 minutes.

2. Matt Duchene needs to get better. Knee injuries suck, so cheers to him recovering quickly. This team just isn't playing at the same level without him. Again, could just be a mental thing, but there's no doubt that Duchene on the bench is messing with some heads on the Avalanche roster.

3. The team needs to utilize both goalies to avoid having one playing tired. That might be a 2 game on - 1 game off deal for Giguere, but our best offense is a good defense. And defense starts at the net - so let's make sure the guys IN the net are ON the puck. So to speak (that was my attempt at humor...).

Anyway - hoping to a good rest of the season and a solid post-season. Go Avs!
